Joe Paterno

I want to talk about the situation that happened at Penn State and the death of Joe Paterno.  On November 9, 2011 after dedicating 61 years to Penn State Football, Joe Paterno was fired for a scandal that happened in 2002 and was not reported until 2011. Many people think that Paterno did the wrong thing, and many people think that Paterno did the right thing. We were never there so we will never know what happened. It was sad that Joe was fired because he didn't handle matters "appropriately." Paterno should definitely not be remembered for this scandal that had to deal with.  I read this article about Paterno and how he "Should not be remembered for Scandal."He deserves to be remembered for the man, coach, father, and husband that he was. Do you think that firing Joe Paterno was the right action to take since America stands by being innocent until proven guilty?  Paterno was obviously at Penn State for a very long time, so he had to be doing something right.  Paterno was very dedicated to Penn State. He seemed to be that when he lost Penn State Football, his life went downhill. He was offered three head coaching positions in the NFL, and turned all of them down because he was loyal to Penn State. Paterno and his wife, Sue, donated $4 million dollars to Penn State and they named the library after the Paterno family. Paterno helped shape Penn State's reputation and name. In the 2011 football season, Paterno broke a Division I record of 409 wins as a coach.  Paterno says "I Wish I had done more" about the scandal and regrets not going to further authority. He also announced earlier that he will be retiring after the last game of the 2011 football season. If society would look past this incident and see that he made a great impact, promoted integrity and good values to the coaches, players and the university they would see what a inspiration he was to the school and to football.
